Overview on Protein Extraction and Purification Using Ionic-Liquid-Based Processes

Proteins are one the most widely studied biomolecules with diverse functions and applications. Aiming at overcoming current drawbacks of purification processes proteins, introduction ionic liquids (ILs) has been a hot topic research. ILs have applied in creation aqueous biphasic systems (IL-based ABS), solid-phase extractions through poly(ionic liquid)s (PILs) supported ionic-liquid phases (SILPs), crystallization proteins. In this sense, emerged as solvents, electrolytes or adjuvants, materials to tune adsorption/affinity capacity aiming developing an efficient, cost-effective, sustainable green IL-based process for protein extraction. This review discusses different extraction proteins past years, namely PILs SILPs, crystallization. The type structure their influence performance also discussed.
